South Africa is a country of many faces.
Practical Information
When to go?
South Africa is a year-round destination, but the seasons are reversed. Summer (November to March) is ideal for exploring Cape Town, the Garden Route or the east coast. The dry winter months (May to September) are best for safaris in Kruger and the north.
Entry requirements
For French passport holders, no visa is required for stays under 90 days. A valid passport is sufficient. No mandatory vaccines, but malaria prevention is advised in some areas (Kruger, Limpopo, etc.).
Getting around
The best way to explore the country freely is by car. Roads are generally in good condition — but don’t forget, driving is on the left! For longer distances, domestic flights save time.
Budget
South Africa offers great value for money: accommodation, food, activities… everything is fairly affordable, especially outside of peak season.
South Africa’s Must-Sees
Cape Town & the Peninsula
A cosmopolitan city between mountains and ocean. Don’t miss Table Mountain, Boulders Beach and its penguins, Cape Point, and the nearby Stellenbosch wine region.
The Garden Route & Route 62
One of the country’s most beautiful road trips: wild beaches, forests, cliffs and charming towns from Mossel Bay to Tsitsikamma, via Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
Kruger National Park
The most famous safari park in South Africa. Whether it’s a self-drive, luxury lodge or guided 4×4 adventure — the Big Five await!
The Drakensberg
Spectacular mountains, breathtaking hiking trails and timeless scenery. Perfect for nature lovers.
Johannesburg & Soweto
A city with a powerful past, vibrant urban culture, and must-see sites like the Apartheid Museum and Mandela House.
Durban & the East Coast
Beaches, surfing, Zulu culture and Indian-influenced cuisine — a bold and flavorful mix!
Culture, Cuisine & Connection
South Africa has 11 official languages, a complex history, and some of the friendliest people you’ll meet.
On the food side, try a traditional braai (South African barbecue), biltong (dried meat), and of course, world-renowned wines.
Meeting locals through grassroots initiatives is often the true highlight of any trip.
In Summary
Accessible, diverse, and deeply moving — South Africa is a destination that leaves a mark.
Whether you’re after safaris, mountains, ocean, culture or slow living, it offers something for every traveler.
