South Africa is a country of many faces. From the majestic mountains of the Drakensberg to the wild beaches of the Garden Route, from safaris in the Kruger to the vineyards of Stellenbosch, it boasts an incredible diversity of landscapes and cultures. Accessible, warm and exotic… it’s one of the best gateways to Southern Africa. Here’s everything you need to know to plan an unforgettable trip.
Practical information to help you plan your trip
When to go?
South Africa can be visited all year round, but the seasons are reversed: summer (November to March) is ideal for exploring Cape Town, the Garden Route or the east coast. The southern winter (May to September) is drier in the north and perfect for Kruger safaris.
Formalities
For French nationals, no visa is required for a stay of less than 90 days. All you need is a valid passport. No vaccinations are required, but malaria prevention is recommended in certain areas (Kruger, Limpopo…).
Getting around
A car is the best way to explore the country in complete freedom. Roads are generally in good condition. Remember, driving is on the left! For longer distances, internal flights can save time.
What’s the budget?
Travelling in South Africa is relatively affordable: accommodation, catering, excursions… The country offers excellent value for money, especially outside the high season.
